What a great event and way to honor this significant contribution to the museum!! Now I can’t wait for the First Gentleman’s ensemble to be part of the exhibit (maybe one day soon?)
I'm personally so excited for this new addition to SMT! I look forward to your coverage of Dr. Jill Biden, and I hope you reflect and research past first ladies too. Thank you again for the audio portions. You're such a pro Elizabeth.
This is so cool! I kept meaning to comment to share that we are going to travel to London for my kiddo's spring break, and I just bought tickets to "Crown to Couture," a new exhibit opening in April at Kensington Palace! It talks about how court fashions from hundreds of years ago influence red carpet fashions today. I'm excited, but I do want to go in with a critical eye, however. We know that a lot of fashions were brought to Europe, and then to United States, from and by people of color. I'm curious to see how/if the exhibit addresses this.
This has always been one of my favorite exhibits here in DC. I love the inclusion of the face masks and how that small piece adds so much to the understanding of that time in history. Especially as I'm trying to do decide what to do with my masks when the time comes to pack them away or throw them away?!
This is such a great addition to SMT, it makes so much sense if you're looking to expand outside of the British royals. And Dr. Biden is a great First Lady to start with - she seems very thoughtful about many things, not surprising that her fashion is one of them.
I love how Hearst & O'Neill are wearing neutrals to allow the First Lady to really pop & shine, which she indeed does. That photo of you, Elizabeth, looking at the detail, with your hand to your mouth, just feels so you :-). Such a great "So many thoughts" moment captured.
Oh my goodness I LOVED this! I adore embroidery and the dress having flowers from each state and territory on it almost brought me to tears! I remember my feelings from Inauguration Day so clearly… I was such a bundle of emotions and cried at everything. It’s so beautiful to hear the stories of these dresses and what they represented. I would ABSOLUTELY read a whole series on the First Lady Portraits Elisabeth!!! Love this expansion of SMT. :)
Oh how I loved this! I’m here for all the First Lady fashion and would love a SMT boom club about it. I think there are so wonderful books out for us to do a deep dive on.

Ohhh that sounds amazing.

I love this addition to SMT!
I also love the flowers from every state in the design. Reminds me of the flowers from every commonwealth country on Meg’s wedding veil.

Loved the audio clips from the two designers!
Love this … and the sound bites make me feel like I was there in the room. ☺️

Thank you for sharing this incredible day with us. Would you mind including details on the dress you’re wearing in the photos?
