Well… Hello! This article is my fever dream. Politics! Fashion! Television! And of course Elizabeth’s signature style infused throughout. I just couldn’t love it anymore. I am currently reading “Chasing Hillary” while watching Girls in the Bus and I love having a visual connection throughout. Thank you for these interviews and all of the great tidbits about the costume choices!

Loving the show and the fashion! As I await the next episode I’ve gone back to season 1 of The West Wing. Love CJs fashion and am 🧐 with the oversized suit jackets and winter coats the guys are wearing. I had forgotten the huge shoulders I used to wear back in the day 🤦‍♀️

Lola's "pool" outfit was the best. The second you could see her on the stairs, you knew how she (mis)interpreted the day's events.

Thanks Elizabeth for bringing this show onto my radar...its EVERYTHING - politics from the female perspective, fashion (+ the analysis), and the interconnectivity of work within one's life, and how those two things impact one another.

As a former campaign trail reporter, who does then-Elizabeth translate with - in fashion - from "Girls on the Bus"?? And what about now-Elizabeth??

Definitely one of my favorite tangents of yours...though I honestly have loved them all!

I just watched the first episode of this and can totally see everything discussed here. i am happy to say that I had noticed most of what Amy, Claire and Lily talk about so their many hours of discussions and attention to detail did not go to waste. Looking forward to watching the rest of the show and like Patricia mentioned above I might go back and watch The West Wing again with a more critical/discerning fashion eye!

What a great article Elizabeth, love to see your fashion critique collide with other worlds I’m also interested in!

Love hearing all the thought that went into this. The attention to aesthetic details really comes through in the show: I’m wondering if you have any plans to write anything for subscribers on the realism - or lack thereof - of the show based on your experience on the trail? I work in political communications (on the Hill, though I have also done campaigns) and while I found the general vibe - for lack of a better word - to ring true and the characters compelling, most of the actual interactions between the reporters and the campaigns and candidates are…not really how things work at all. I was actually surprised to learn how involved Amy was in the show. But would be curious if you felt the same way!

This was so fascinating to read! As a journalist myself, I can relate to the practicality of the outfits when covering stories! I will be adding this to my watch list!

Loved this article. I had no desire to watch this show, but now I plan to stop everything and BINGE! I really enjoy your articles that spend time analyzing fashion. It's all new to me (even though I'm a late boomer).
