Just a reminder for SMTers who want to reach out to their reps in hopes of helping to change funding for teacher supplies--school funding is LOCAL, not federal. How much funding is controlled by city, county, or state government varies depending on your state, but contacting your federal representatives/senators will not do any good! Send that energy to your state houses and local governments, or look into the particular system in place in your state so you can target your feedback precisely!!
For example, I am in South Carolina, and here school funding is allocated by each county’s legislative delegation--the state reps and state senators from your county. If you want to make sure that teachers have appropriate supply budgets, those are the people to contact. Your state may differ!
Thank you so much for doing this again this year! My son is a first year teacher and I have helped him put a wish list together and submit to several campaigns, including yours. It is heartwarming to read the thank you’s from teachers who are benefiting from your work and the generosity of others.
To the teachers reading who benefited from this community or others ... What does your list look like? Is it everything you’d like for your classroom, or a few items related to a project or topic?
And to all of you helping #ClearTheLists - what makes a teacher or list stand out? Do you look for something in common with them or read their story and make a connection? Do you decide by price?
I’m writing this in total “mom mode“ and he would kill me for asking for help. I appreciate whatever this community will share to help!
Just cleared 2 teachers lists, love teacher and appreciate all they do!
Thank you so much, Jenni
Helped out a local teacher on Maui
