Meghan is Making Moves
The Duchess of Sussex returns to Instagram and announces a new Netflix show, ‘With Love, Meghan.’
Hello and happy 2025! Our family left Los Angeles for a few days in the snow, during which I planned to unplug. Not so for the Duchess of Sussex! I woke up Jan. 1 to the news she had returned to Instagram, posting for the first time in nearly five years.
Rumors had been swirling around the handle @Meghan for quite some time. I followed awhile back and checked in periodically, with the Cut cover story in mind (remember that 2022 piece and how it opened, with Meghan telling the reporter “I’m getting back…on Instagram?”). The duchess made it official on New Year’s Day, with a Reel shot by Prince Harry, I’m told, on a public beach near their Montecito home.
The couple has spoken out for years about the need for safer online practices — and Meghan’s inaugural post has hints of their learnings. The duchess turned off comments as well as like counts and the ability for others to tag her. Her follower count soared to more than one million in a day or so; meanwhile, she isn’t following anyone. (Cheers to setting boundaries, am I right?)
In the video, Meghan runs toward the water before stopping to write “2025” in the sand. It felt like a signal of big things to come this year — and sure enough, the next day she dropped the trailer for her new Netflix show.
With Love, Meghan is set to debut on Jan. 15, a series of eight 33-minute episodes that “reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming,” according to the streamer. The two-minute preview suggests the show leans into Meghan’s pre-royal, Tig-era interests of food and gardening, featuring a number of guests along the way.
Much like with Spare or Archetypes, I am always a proponent of waiting until we can read/listen/watch something in its entirety before having a full take. But I did have some initial thoughts — on the concept, the timing, and the #tradwife criticism — which you’ll find below. Will you be watching With Love, Meghan? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
