A deep dive into the trip, including the connections between the couple, the country, and the Commonwealth. Plus, a recap of the most moving moments from the first day.
Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Nigeria Friday, kicking off a three-day visit to spotlight the country’s growing involvement in the Invictus Games. “Welcome,” read the banner at the Lightway Academy in Abuja, their first engagement of the trip. “We Are Honored To Have You!”
“It is a complete honor to have our first visit to Nigeria be here with all of you,” the duchess told the students. “We believe in you. We believe in your futures.”
During the formal welcome Friday afternoon, Harry thanked those present for their commitment to Invictus, the sporting competition for injured and sick service people he founded. “It not only transforms lives but saves lives,” the duke said. “I’m eternally grateful to you all of you for joining the Invictus movement for Nigeria and for every single soul who’s been injured protecting the freedoms of Nigeria.”
