Hello! And welcome to So Many Thoughts (or SMT as we like to call it) on Substack. Think of this as a fun little refresh — a mini makeover, if you will — as I set up shop on a new platform. I am so excited about all of the new features on this newsletter-centric platform and can’t wait to grow our community here.
First and foremost, if you are receiving this email, great news: you are subscribed! You will continue to receive a free newsletter from me several times a month, just like before. Please add this email address to your contacts or mark it as “not spam” to make sure it reaches you.
I’m also excited to share a new way to support what I do at So Many Thoughts in this newsletter as well as on Instagram and beyond. More below!
A little BTS to start: I relaunched this newsletter last fall as part of Meta’s Bulletin program. It was an incredible opportunity to join a community of talented writers on a platform supported by a team of newsletter experts. Over the course of a year, and through roughly 100 (!) newsletters, I have shared a mix of royal news, style suggestions, and musings on life — all of which you have consistently read in astonishing numbers. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
In the spirit of transparency, this newsletter was made possible by my contract with Meta. That steady stream of income enabled all kinds of other SMT pursuits, too, including my newsletter reporting on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the wall-to-wall Instagram posts I did around Her Majesty’s funeral.
Now that Meta has made the difficult decision to end the Bulletin program, I am asking for your support. This is new for me, and I’m sure new for many of you! But SMT long ago turned from a side hustle into a full-time gig, requiring my time and resources (licensing all those royal photographs!).
So with the move to Substack, I am offering paid subscriptions for $5/month or $50/year. That’s less than the cost of a latte per month in most places, and about a third of the cost of a Nap Dress each year. Tbqh I wouldn’t dream of asking anybody to give up their caffeine or clothing — but I hope it puts the price into perspective.
Important note: If you are unable to pay for a subscription, for any reason, please send me a note at Hello@SoManyThoughts.com.
By becoming a paid subscriber to So Many Thoughts, you will receive my weekly newsletter, home to my royal deep dives, fashion Q&As, personal reflections — all of it. You’ll also join the SMT community here on Substack (this part I’m really excited about) with the ability to comment on every newsletter, ask me anything in monthly Q&As, and join a new SMT book club (we’ve got to kick it off with Harry’s memoir, Spare, don’t you think?). Substack has so many fun new features, too, including audio, video, and chat that I think will come in handy as we swap thoughts.
What’s more — and I want to really underscore this — a paid subscription here will allow me to continue all the other work I do, too, on Instagram and beyond. Your $5 a month makes it all possible!
Pssst: Check out the “Gift a Subscription” option as you start to tackle your holiday lists.
If you feel particularly strongly about So Many Thoughts, or perhaps you are in a position to give a bit more, then I’d invite you to become a founding member. For the amount of your choosing over $50 a year, you will get a special badge when you comment and my sincere appreciation for your support. (I’m working on additional ways to show my thanks and I’m open to your thoughts about what would make being a paid subscriber or founding member feel special. Drop me a note at Hello@SoManyThoughts.com.)
Thank you all for joining me on this journey! If you can believe it, we are coming up on the *fifth* anniversary of So Many Thoughts. Back on that December day, the then-Cambridges’ holiday card popped up in my Instagram feed as I was nursing my second son. I took a screenshot, added a few text bubbles, and called it So Many Thoughts. SMT has grown in ways I could never have imagined, thanks to the smart and savvy community around it. We’re all here together, thinking life through. I am so grateful. 💗
So I'm 71 years old and had to Google what BTS stood for. Imagine my surprise when the answer was "Better than Sex". Luckily I kept reading through and found "Behind The Scenes" which I am assuming is what you were meaning.😂😂
A bit late but this is my first substack subscription too! I’m so excited to see how the space evolves and to join this community. Also so looking forward to the Boston signing!
