A Case For Nice Pajamas
Don’t sleep on — but do sleep in — these five styles. 😴

After we turned our clocks back and in the midst of several days of rain, I found myself reaching for my pajamas at the same time as my kids. Is there any better feeling than changing into comfy clothes? No. Is there a way to make it more fun? I would argue yes — with nice pajamas.
Years ago, somewhere in the fog of early motherhood, I decided it was time to step up my sleeping attire. Old t-shirts and worn-out flannel pants felt…old and worn out. And let’s be real, with three kids under the age of 5, I was spending too much time in soft styles for it to be an afterthought. I dipped my toe into nicer waters with one matched set (navy, from Nordstrom), and then another (oversize and striped, from J.Crew). Only after Bird was fully a toddler did I resolve to make the switch fully.
And I have! My pajama options have vastly improved, to the point where I have a bit of a nice pajama collection. It’s an absurd thing to write, I know. To be clear: Everyone should sleep in whatever they choose. For me, the intentional upgrade has felt so good — like the best possible version of adulting? It’s a mood boost before bed and a little jolt in the morning as I start my day.
Scroll down for five sets in rotation for me as we head into the winter months. I’ve added a little “where to wear” suggestion on each but please know every one of these works just as well on a Tuesday at home, like tonight. Sweet (stylish) dreams. 😊
PS: For those looking to layer, I rotate between robes from Lake (the “Cozy” style lives up to its name) and Weezie (a light terry with a great scallop edge). My slippers at the moment are from Brunch (love how lightweight they are; they run small, size up).

Where to wear this set: Family matching moment
You don’t have to take my word for this rec, consider that I first learned about this brand thanks to a young Prince George. Back in 2016, the pint-sized heir stayed up past his bedtime to meet President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at Kensington Palace. He was clad in a similar gingham set from Petite Plume. After eyeing their assortment for years, last year I finally got not one but five — one for me, Matt and the kids. When it comes to family matching, they are <chef’s kiss>. The classic navy stripe works for so many occasions. The cotton is just thick enough to resist most wrinkles, while the classic cut feels timeless.
PS: For those with an eye to the holidays, I am getting the Kensington Tartan for our family for Christmas.

Where to wear this set: A girls’ trip or on holiday at a chic hotel
You read that right, these are stylish! I had (incorrectly) assumed there was minimal silhouette variations possible when it comes to pajamas. A straight cut, obviously, and perhaps a tad oversize? And yet, La Ligne — a small, female-founded brand worn often by the Duchess of Sussex — found a welcome white space in the market. The top of this set is more fitted, akin to a classic button-up shirt. The bottoms are lower rise, with a bit of a flare. I love the unexpected color combos, too (like this pairing of light blue and cherry red) with piping placed just above the ankle for an added kick.
PS: This is part of the Bonne Nuit line, which is made out of cotton T-shirt fabric — super soft.
Vibe: Breathable

Where to wear this set: Warm-weather escape (or when the hormones hit)
This is my second set from this female-founded, sustainable British intimates brand. A peppy floral set has made it into my recommendations before; this cranberry iteration is perfect for fall. The appeal? Stripe & Stare makes its pajamas with Tencel, a sustainable fabric that is naturally moisture-wicking and anti-bacterial. It’s also soft and breathable, making it ideal if you are at the age where sleeping can come with challenges (ahem, ugh, night sweats c/o perimenopause).
PS: The same goes for the rest of their assortment! This bra in the same shade is my go-to at the moment.

Where to wear this set: A cabin or the couch
I was at the mall recently, shopping for my (coming soon!) festive fashion newsletter and spotted this at Gap. The chocolate brown caught my eye, as it’s my current favorite hue. The micro-ribbing had me intrigued, as I love a little texture. But it was the neckline, a wider cut trimmed with lace, that had me heading for the fitting room. The set was unexpected, with enough stretch to move easily. It layers really nicely, too, with my cozy sweater from the With Love, Meghan recreations and my new slippers.
PS: This is part of a mix-and-match collection, which also offers a tank, if that is more your vibe, and a super cute cardigan.
Vibe: (Slightly) Sexy

Where to wear this set: Weekend away
This arrived from Lunya at the start of the summer and I will say, I was DELIGHTED immediately. Made of washable silk, it walks a fine line, feeling a tiny bit sexy while also still family friendly lol. But function is key, too! The tank has adjustable racer-back straps, which I find super comfortable. The bottoms have sizable slits on either side of the calf, a lovely vent to keep things cool. This set packs really well, too, rolling up nicely to stash in your suitcase.
PS: The tank offered me (an A cup) plenty of coverage. If you are looking for more, I also have (and love) the traditional button-up set in a very fun polka dot.
I am off to change into my (nice!) pajamas. Wishing you a bit of rest as we gear up for the holiday season.

I am a Lake PJs devotee, forever and ever. Never met PJs I loved more! And a small woman owned biz!
Is it just me or could you wear the La Ligne set with say THE coat on your next overnight flight to London? I say yes!! (And also, immediate add to cart!)
